This recipe highlights the humble wheat berry; the dried seed that's the source of our flour. Wheat berries are nutritious, filling and have a depth of flavour that brings a whole new dimension to breakfast. It works beautifully in this hearty porridge and will keep you full all morning long.
160g Cooked wheat berries (We used Red Fife but each has a slightly unique flavour)
165g Oat milk
5g-15g Real maple syrup (to taste)
80g Apple, peeled and cut into small cubes (approx 1 small apple)
10g Raisins (or whatever dried fruit you like)
1/4 tsp Ground cinnamon
Serves 2
Place cooked wheat berries, oat milk, maple syrup, diced apple and raisins in a suitable pot.
Mix ingredients together to with a wooden spoon.
Place pot on burner and bring to a simmer. Continue to simmer for approx 5 minutes, stir as needed.
Remove mixture from heat and stir in cinnamon.
Pour mixture into individual bowls and drizzle with additional maple syrup if desired.
Enjoy warm.
