September means cooler evenings, familiar routines and ovens coming back on.
Sourdough September is the Real Bread Campaign’s annual invitation to bake genuine sourdough at home, support independent bakeries and learn more about the people and ingredients behind our bread.
That feels closely connected to what we are building at Almanac. We mill Canadian-grown grain in the middle of Ottawa because flour should be fresh, flavourful and connected to the farmers who grew it. But a thriving bread culture does not live only inside a bakery; it also lives in your kitchen.
This September, we want to help more people bake real bread themselves. You're invited.
From August 31–September 6 and September 21–30, (the first and last week of the month) all Almanac flour will be on sale at Little Italy and the East End Counter and through our online store. All bag sizes and varieties are eligible, and you can mix and match.
One bag: 10% off
Two bags: 15% off
Three or more bags: 20% off
The offer cannot be combined with other discounts.
Throughout the month of September, bring a clean container to Little Italy or the East End Counter and we will give you a free portion of active Almanac sourdough starter, along with instructions to help you feed it and get baking.
Glass is preferred, but any clean container that can safely hold starter will do. Available while daily supplies last.
Throughout September, pick up free bread recipes and practical baking tips from the harvest table in the middle of our Little Italy bakery or at our East End Counter.
Whether you are working toward your first loaf or trying to better understand fermentation and fresh-milled flour, we want to help make the process a little less mysterious.
