Don Elio and Doña Mercedes have owned and operated their farm, Finca El Recreo for almost their whole lives. They come from coffee-growing families and are proud to see their son, Ronaldo, following in their path. Their farm sits on a sunny ridge outside of Moniquira and their property consists of two lots of 1.5 hectares each, planted with the Castillo variety and what might be Catuai.The coffees produced here are beautifully clean and unique. Traditionally, they had been using the washed technique for all of their lots. Now, in a remarkable intergenerational collaboration, they are fermenting most lots in cherry for a total of 120 hours before being completely washed and dried in a combination of elda and raised beds. Their farm is completely organic and is filled with shade-giving trees such as plantain and citrus for slow cherry maturation.They are relentlessly dedicated to quality coffees. Their recent innovations have won them the title of best coffee in their department, and LULO is proud to be their first client in the specialty market.
